The Burundi team are back with stronger legs and a strengthened cause. They pushed across Alberta in 2013 raising an impressive $9,500 towards building a school in the small African country. Last year in 2014 they pushed across British Colombia raising another $6000.

Burundi is a worthy cause to fundraise for. In the past half a century since Belgian colonization, Burundi experienced tragic unrest in a power struggle between the Tutsi and the Hutu tribes. Political strife and violence between the Army and civilian populations resulted in genocides, 1993 alone saw 100,000 Burundian lives lost in the internal fighting. The civil war in Burundi paralleled its neighbor Rwanda, and uncertainty exists to this day. The controversial 3rd term of president Nkurunziza in 2015 has sparked an attempted coup, and 100,000 Burundians have fled their homes to attempt a better life in neighboring countries.

Burundi pulled itself out of 12 years of civil war 9 years ago, Jordan, Caleb, and Richard saw the potential to do something that not every 17 year old does, bring light to a part of the world that really needs it. Building tolerance in a country like Burundi means educating the youth. Push for Burundi partnered with the non-profit organization, Loveworks, with the inspiring goal to Raise $50,000 to build a school for the Batwa community in the North of the country. The project is already well on its way (see video below), and obviously the Push team has been a huge contributor.
